Jess and Natalie talk with Sheena Navidi and Brittany Robertson about OT’s role in managing sleep and delirium in the ICU. We discuss the relationship between sleep and delirium, and the influence of these factors on ICU outcomes.


Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will demonstrate understanding of the role of sleep in overall health and well being, implications of lack of sleep in the ICU, and role of sleep deprivation in delirium.
  2. Learners will recognize symptoms associated with delirium and ways to assess delirium in the acute care setting.
  3. Learners will identify nonpharmacological interventions for patients to prevent delirium and enhance sleep hygiene in the acute care setting.
